Presentation
The memory consultation is intended for anyone with memory problems. For our patients over 65, it is an integral part of the Centre des Toises' psychiatry and psychotherapy service for the elderly. Progressive memory disorders are known as dementias, and differ from normal age-related difficulties.
Dementia occurs when cognitive functions such as memory, language or task planning are affected, with repercussions for everyday life. When the individual, his or her family or both become aware of the problem, it becomes necessary to detect it by means of tests.
It's important not to trivialize complaints, and to discuss them with your doctor.
Procedure for the memory assessment
- Anamnesis with the patient and his family caregivers
- Psychiatric evaluation to rule out other disorders causing memory problems
Elimination of depression, anxiety, etc. - Test of cognitive functions using the MOCA
Montreal Cognitive Assessment - Organization of additional tests based on preliminary results
Neuropsychological evaluation, brain imaging, etc. - Summary interview with the patient and his entourage
- Sending the report to the treating physician
